Dr. Donald Dwight Hook, age 89, passed away on July 6, 2018. Son of Dwight Carlisle and Eunice Fowler Hook, he was born on December 16, 1928 in Charlotte, NC. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Harriett Gay Blackwell. He Read Obituary
I only just today learned that Don fell asleep in the Lord two years ago. He and I met at the General Convention of the Episcopal Church back in 1991 in Phoenix, Arizona. We discovered we shared a common concern about feminist proposals to alter the traditional language for God. This eventually led to us writing together three articles on the subject.
Don was a Christian gentleman and a good friend. May his memory be eternal.
Dr. Hook introduced me to the study of German when I was a freshman at Trinity in 1961. His enthusiasm for the language and delightful personality greatly influenced my decision to major in the language. He was a warm and wonderful person who helped me find my way to a rewarding career teaching German. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dr. Hook was one of my favorite professors at Trinity. I enjoyed two semesters of German in his class. He was dedicated to his students and taught us with great efficacy and humor. My deepest sympathies to his family and to you, Dr. Hook...Ruhe in Frieden. You will be missed.
