Donald John Erickson's Obituary
Donald John Erickson, age 93, of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. He was born on July 31, 1926 in Atlantic City, NJ, son of the late Arthur and Melinda Erickson.
Don served in the United States Navy for 3 years during WWII in the Pacific. He was a Petty Officer, 2nd Class on the USS Prometheus. His service for his country was something that he was extremely proud of. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5, VFW 7447, and Moose. Don retired from the Sheet Metal Union local 19 in 1987 after working for 28 years. He loved spending time on his boat fishing, crabbing and clamming with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and woodworking.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Erickson was preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur, Raymond, and Robert Erickson. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Ruth M. (Shubert) Erickson of Lewes, DE; three children: Lorraine Erickson of Felton, DE, Donnie Erickson and his wife Donna of Lewes, DE, and Rebecca Rohlfing and her husband William of Harbeson, DE; three grandsons: Jason Rohlfing and his wife Laura of Virginia Beach, VA, D.J. Erickson of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and David Erickson of Rehoboth Beach, DE. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019, at 11:00 AM at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow Mass at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
