Dewitt W. Platt's Obituary
Dewitt Wesley Platt, age 71, of Dagsboro, DE, died Thursday, April 12, at his residence, after a courageous three year battle with Leukemia. He was sourrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. Mr. Platt was born July 24, 1935 in Harrisburg, PA, son of Mildred (Stephens) Platt and the late DeWitt Oakum.
After graduating from the University of Maryland, Dewitt entered the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Navy Commander. Dewitt settled in Kensington, MD and worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and retired as the Senior Analyst for Russian Affairs. He moved with his wife to Stowe, VT where he enjoyed skiing and was President of the Stowe Vermont Rotary Club. After ten years he returned to the eastern shore residing in Dagsboro.
He is survived by his loving wife, Grace and their three children, Karen Geppert, Stephen Platt and Jacqueline Abbott and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 17, 11 AM, at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE with Rev. Raymond Forrester as Celebrant. Burial with full miltary honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. The family will receive friends at their residence on Monday, April 16, 6-8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Dewitt Platt Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Brian O'Rourke, Bishop John A. Marshall School, 680 Laporte Road, Morrisville, VT 05661.
