Dax Rael Norman's Obituary
Dax Rael Norman, age 55 of Lewes, DE, formerly of Marriottsville, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was born Thursday, February 8, 1962 in Takoma Park, MD, son of Gail (Mesa) Norman and the late John Harry Norman.
Dax grew up in Poolesville, MD where he was known as “Chuck” and was an active member in the Boy Scouts of America and Vice President of the Poolesville High School Class of 1980. He enlisted in United States Air Force in 1980 and continued to serve with the DC National Guard Reserve until 1986. He earned his B.S. in Government and Politics in August 1991 from University of Maryland, University College, and his M.S. in Strategic Intelligence from National Intelligence University August 2002.
Dax served for 34 years with the Department of Defense at Ft. Meade Maryland. He most enjoyed his last position as the National Security Agency National Intelligence University Program Director, where he taught graduate courses and mentored students through the completion of their Master’s thesis projects.
Dax's favorite past times included hiking and photography. He was an amazing, kind, and patient person, always putting the needs of others first. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his father, Dax was preceded in death by his brother Michael Norman. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Carol Rhodes Norman of Lewes, DE; his daughter, Victoria Norman of Ellendale, DE; his sisters, Valaree Dickerson and her husband Craig of Poolesville, MD and Ayna Norman and her husband Mark Borreson of Packwood, WA; and his brothers, Lane Norman and his wife Mary of Rockville, MD and Jonathan Norman and his wife Melissa of Clarksburg, WV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday Sept 6, 2017 at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew located at 15300 New Hampshire Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20905. Family will receive friends from noon until the time of service at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Dax's name to Western Upper Montgomery County HELP, INC (WUMCO) (wumcohelp.org ) or So Others May Eat (SOME) 71 O Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001 (some.org ), an organization he has supported for many years.
