David Harry Lemmon's Obituary
David H. Lemmon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 22, 2014. David was born on February 17, 1948 in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late Harry A. and Lillian J. Lemmon.
He attended Forwood Junior High School and P.S. DuPont High School before his family moved to Lewes, Delaware. David graduated from Lewes High School in 1966. While attending Lewes High School, he played football, basketball, and baseball. David attended Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky before transferring to the University of Delaware, where he graduated with a degree in Physical Education. David enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1970 and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas; Fort Meade and Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland serving as an x-ray technician. Upon honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he returned to Delaware and completed his education at University of Delaware.
David was a Physical Education and Health teacher at Lewes Middle School and coached the Cape Henlopen High School soccer team. He left the field of education to establish a career in the construction industry resulting in a 25-year relationship with the owners of Port Lewes as their resident manager until his death.
David was the voice, music and personality behind the deejay business of “24 Karat Sound”. As a sports enthusiast, he was a fan of the Delaware Blue Hens, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Baltimore Ravens. David was a member of the Lewes American Legion Post 17 and an active member of the Delaware Seashore Parrot Head Club.
Known for his zest for life and warm heart, David will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Karinne J. Lemmon, his son, Nicholas M. Lemmon, and grandson Noah D. Lemmon. He is also survived by his sister Catherine L. Parks, niece Jessica Parks and nephew Mathew Parks of Port St. Lucie, Florida; cousins Linda Mackey Hart of Florida, Jay Mackey of Tennessee, Doss Mackey of North Carolina, and his aunt Rosemarie Mackey of Florida.
David’s family expresses their appreciation to the Port Lewes Association of Unit Owners, The Tunnell Cancer Center, Dr. Peri, and the devoted friends that were such a strong support system during this difficult time.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
