Darryl Gene Witman's Obituary
Darryl Gene Witman, age 75, of Lewes, DE, passed away at Bayhealth Hospital on Monday, May 8, 2023. Born on September 7, 1947, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Arabella J. (Hamilton) Witman.
After high school, Darryl answered the call to defend his country as a radio operator in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam war. After his honorable discharge, Darryl ‘s path would lead him back to his hometown of Reading, PA to Boscov’s Dept Stores as a tractor trailer driver, where during his career Darryl not only logged hundreds of thousands of miles but dedicated 39 years of service. On Christmas Day in 1985, Darryl wed Jody Waszkiewicz and the two would spend the next thirty-seven years creating a beautiful life and raising their son. After Darryl retired, he and Jody were drawn to the beauty of Southern Delaware and they settled in Lewes, closer to the bays and the ocean, where Darryl could enjoy the peacefulness of the water with a fishing pole in his hand, or just relaxing on the beach. Darryl took pleasure in the simple things of life. Genealogy was a passion of his and he enjoyed discovering his family’s ancestry and sharing his findings with the ones he loved.
In addition to his parents, Darryl was preceded in death by his nephew, Daniel Drexler. He is survived by his beloved wife Jody Witman; his son Kyle Witman (Genna Borowski); his sister, Peggy Drexler (Thomas); his sister-in-law, Cindy Whitehead; his brother-in-law, Barry Waszkiewicz (Jerry); three nieces and one nephew; and 7 great nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
