Dana Theodore Schubert Jr.'s Obituary
Dana Theodore Schubert, Jr., 78, of Seaford, DE, passed away on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dana was born in Des Plaines, Illinois on January 4, 1936. He was the son of the late Dana Theodore Schubert, Sr. and Georgia (Gewecke) Schubert.
Dana and his wife of 50 years moved to Seaford, DE in 2004 from Arnold, MD, where they had lived for 36 years in the community of Shore Acres on the Magothy River. Dana was an active and vital part of the community association. He loved motor boating, sailing, camping and fishing, and was a member of the Anne Arundel Fish and Game Association. He was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla #18, Magothy River. He served for many years, taught Safe Boating classes, earned several awards and was Flotilla Commander for 2 years. He looked forward to his Monday and Wednesday Bridge games.
Dana graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957 with the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences. He served in the US Army for 2 years and was employed with Montgomery Ward and Co. as Assistant Manager for the Chicago Catalog House. He was later transferred to Baltimore, MD as the Manager of the Baltimore Catalog House.
In March of 2002, Dana retired after 20 years as Fund Manager for IBEW Local #26 Joint Trust Funds in Lanhan, Maryland.
Dana is survived by his wife Molly (McLendon) Schubert; daughter Georgia Lightfoot and husband Paul, their sons Sean and Ross of Arnold, MD; daughter Julie Kay Jellig and husband Jerry, their children Conor, Maria, Donald and Patrick of Haddonfield, NJ; one brother, Stuart Schubert and wife Janet of Inverness, IL; two sisters; Diane Fletcher and husband Quigley of Palatine, IL and Karen Anderson and husband Tom of Minnetonka, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Parsell Funeral Home, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may begin visiting at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Seaford Public Library, 600 N. Market Street Extended, Seaford, DE 19973, or the Nanticoke Senior Center, 1001 West Locust Street, Seaford, DE 19973.
