Cynthia A. Ewen's Obituary
Cynthia A. (Witcoski) Ewen
August 2, 1956 – March 19, 2025
Cynthia A (Witcoski) Ewen, affectionately known as Cindi, passed away peacefully with Jimi by her side March 19, 2025, at her home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware where she battled after a long illness. She was 68.
Born on August 2, 1956, in Wilmington, Delaware, Cindi’s family moved to Newark where she lived most of her life, while also cherishing time spent in Rehoboth Beach. She was the daughter of Francis B. Witcoski and Antoinette Witcoski (Laskowsky) and took great pride in her Polish, Irish and Ukrainian heritage.
Cindi graduated from Christiana High School in 1974 and later earned certification in barbering and cosmetology. With determination and creative spirit, she became the sole owner of BILCYN Hair Company, operating her salon on Haines Street in Newark for approximately 30 years.
She is remembered by her husband James (Jimi), her sister and her brother-in-law, as well as her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Cindi and Jimi were married for 36 years. Their love story began on the ski slopes and continued through decades of shared passions—tailgating at University of Delaware football games, traveling, boating, and enjoying Broadway shows and concerts spanning genres from classic rock to Motown to philharmonic performances.
Their devotion extended to their many dogs—Street, Obie, Mulligan, Bella, and Augie—who brought joy and adventure into their lives. Bella and Augie, clad in tiny life preservers and swim goggles, were frequent companions aboard their boat, SOMBA, during summer gatherings like the annual Lewes 4th of July Boat parade and the “Clams-Anitta” party in the Rehoboth Bay.
A fiercely independent soul with a sharp wit and generous heart, Cindi touched all who knew her. As Jimi often said: “She didn’t need a man. She accepted me into her life.
May her memory be as enduring as the winds over the Delaware Bay and Rehoboth Bay.
