Craig Nelson Hastings' Obituary
Craig Nelson Hastings, age 30, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE after losing a courageous battle with muscular dystrophy. He was born in Milford, DE, on October 17, 1984, son of Steven C. Hastings and Cheryl L. (Coverdale) Wright.
Craig was a 2003 Seaford High School Graduate and in 2008 he earned a General Business diploma from Delaware Technical and Community College.
Craig was a NASCAR enthusiast who followed Jeff Gordon and his No. 24 Chevrolet SS. At a NASCAR race in Dover he met Jeff Gordon as well as many other drivers and was allowed to tour Pit Road. Craig was also a fan of Indy Car Racing as well as Formula One Racing. Craig was also a fan of Mixed Martial Arts. He was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys even during the bad seasons and also enjoyed watching the Baltimore Ravens.
For all of his enjoyment of sports Craig was a fan of cooking shows on TV and nothing made him happier than trying recipe’s with the help of his home health aide Heather for family gathering’s. Craig was known for the many variety of Christmas Cookies and candies they made during the holiday season.
During the summer, Craig enjoyed participating in the MDA summer camps where at one point he was a poster child. He loved Apple Scrapple, where he won an award for the “Hog Calling Contest” along with his maternal grandmother Doris Coverdale. He also loved following current politics and was an expert in computers. One of his biggest accomplishments was achieving the National Honor Society status.
Craig had such a great sense of humor and was one of the most kind and generous individuals ever. He was always concerned about how everyone else was and never complained about his situation or pain.
Craig was very much loved and will be deeply missed.
Craig was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Doris Coverdale. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Riley Hastings; paternal grandparents, Joan and Paul Hastings and his step-father, Brian Wright.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at 11 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may call from 10 AM to 11 AM. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Interment will follow the funeral services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Market & Laws Streets, Bridgeville, DE.
