My deepest sympathies to Bettina and family. I saw this obituary only now as I was trying to track Conrad down. He and I were very close friends in Gardner Massachusetts growing up and shared many adventures including some wonderful trips with his parents. I am sorry not to have caught up with him in recent years and gotten to know his family.

I was very sorry to learn today of my stepbrother's passing. We had unfortunately grown out of touch since the death of his father and my mother. My wife and I only met Bettina once and would have liked to have gotten to know her. Our greatest sympathy on Conrad's passing to Bettina and Charisse and family. Our memory of Conrad was that of a very gentle person and a gentleman, always willing to help out, always willing to lend a hand. Very friendly, very decent, a pleasure to know. He will be missed.

It was always in passing. On a walk I would run into Conrad most often in his garden. We had nice discussions. I always thought that it would morph into deeper longer social interactions, but it never quite took that natural turn - absences on both sides. He was a sweet, intelligent fellow. An opportunity I wish I didn't miss. I feel the sorrow for you and the family at your loss. But I do recall him telling me of his fight with cancer a while back and I think that the sustained decline and setbacks must have been difficult for all. My best wishes on gathering your footing after such an ordeal.
