Clifton E. Thrift's Obituary
Clifton E. Thrift, age 88, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Mr Thrift was a past Fire chief of the Branchville Fire Dept in Maryland in 1942, a Veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII, Company -A's 13th Battalion. He worked for 25 years as a Meat Dept. Manager for Safeway Foods in Washington, DC and later for 10 years as a Tax Assessor for Maryland State Assessments Office. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge # 179 and the Shriner Almas Temple in the Washington, DC area. He attended the Christ United Methodist Church in Landover Hills, MD before he made his permanent residence in Rehoboth Beach in 1984 after his retirement.
Mr. Thrift was currently a Member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Catherine Thrift, who died in 2004.
He is survived by two daughters; Terri Ann Thrift of Stafford, VA and Nancy C. Galentine and husband Arthur G. of Frederick, MD; two grandsons; Clifton G. Galentine of Lexington, SC and Dana R. Galentine of Poolsville, MD; one granddaughter; Sheryl L. Taylor and husband Mike of Frederick MD; and six great-grandchildren.
A Masonic Service will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 1:50 PM. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Pat Loughlin officiating. His Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722.
