Clifford W. Tyson's Obituary
Clifford Wayne Tyson, age 98, beloved husband of the late Miriam Blackwell Tyson, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Country Rest Home, in Greenwood, DE. He was born in Washington, D. C. on December 11, 1918 son of the late, Perry W and Margaret A (Kussler) Tyson.
Mr. Tyson grew up in Pennsylvania, then received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the George Washington University, Washington, D. C. Serving in the U. S. Army in World War II, and he was a Staff Sergeant and Personnel Technician. He was in France and Germany in WWII to muster out the troops at the end of the fighting in Europe.
Mr. Tyson was retired from the U.S. Public Health Service as a Senior Personnel Management Specialist ending 37 years in Federal Service. He volunteered for 55 years in numerous positions in the Boy Scouts of America where he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, one of the highest given by the Boy Scouts. For years he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hyattsville, Maryland, and after moving to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, he joined Epworth United Methodist Church. He filled various positions there among them teaching The Seekers Class for nine years, a class for adults, Lay Delegate to the Annual Conference, and was Lay Speaker, and Trustee.
Clif was a charter and life member of the Chesapeake Bay Insulator Club made up of people interested in collecting insulators in the Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware areas. He enjoyed woodworking and reading Colonial American history, as hobbies, and taking trips and ship cruises with Miriam. He was a contributing member of George Washington's Mount Vernon and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia, and a Charter Member of the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, PA.
Clif was married to Miriam for 69 years. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Kapusta of Wilmington, NC; his sons, Wayne of Mesa, AZ, Alan of Greenwood, DE and Mark of Binghampton, NY; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM.
Entombment will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
