Claude "Reuben" Love Austell III's Obituary
Claude Love Austell, III, age 71, "Reuben" to his family and friends, "Chuck" to his colleagues, passed away from complications of pancreatic cancer on Saturday, August 22, 2009. He lived in Bridgeville, DE, previously in Plant City, FL and Bowie, MD.
Mr. Austell was born on June 20, 1938 in Shelby, NC to C.L. Austell, Jr. and Crowelyn Austell. He was employed by the Department of Defense after serving in the Army, giving more than 38 years of service to his country. He enjoyed golfing, discussing politics, visiting friends, and mostly, playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann Austell. He is survived by his wife, Elgi; two sons Christopher and Mark; three stepsons, William, Mark and John Kaarid; four daughters-in-law: five grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Cecil Burton Funeral Home in Shelby, NC on Sunday, August 30, 2009. An additional service will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church in Bowie on Saturday, September 5, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Austell's family requests donations be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 (www.dehospice.org).
