Christopher William Luke's Obituary
Christopher William Luke, 58 of Harbeson, DE died suddenly, surrounded by his loved ones on May 23, 2023, in Spokane, WA while traveling with family. Chris was born November 28, 1964, in Orange, NJ to Jeanette Metz Luke and William Luke Jr. Chris spent his early childhood years in Short Hills and Allamuchy, NJ before moving to Deerfield, IL where he completed his elementary and high school years alongside his lifelong friends.
Chris had a lifelong passion for baseball, playing little league, then continuing through high school and college. His passion took him to the University of Arkansas where he forged lasting friendships with his Pi Kappa Alpha brothers. As the Pledge Trainer for the PIKE house, Chris was instrumental in the reconstituting of the AZ Chapter in Fayetteville. He loved his Razorback home and taught his children and many other family members how to “Call the Hogs”.
Chris met the love of his life, Jeanne, in Chicago in 1989 and they married in 1991. Together they raised their three children as his career took them to Wheaton, Illinois; Lawrenceville, Georgia; and finally settling in Stewartsville, NJ in 1998. Chris was an active member of the Stewartsville community, serving on the Board of Education for the Greenwich Township School District and was instrumental in the opening of Greenwich Elementary School in 2001. He served for many years on the Stewartsville Recreation Commission Board, coaching numerous sports teams and supporting various community minded initiatives. His greatest joy in life was coaching and watching his children play baseball, softball, soccer, or basketball.
Chris enjoyed a successful 35-year career selling and managing business to business media before retiring from BNP Media last summer. He traveled extensively throughout his career but never sacrificed being present in the stands or on the sidelines to watch his children’s games or celebrate their life milestones.
Chris was an active member of the Phillipsburg Area Baseball Commission supporting the youth and high school baseball programs. He loved cheering for the Moravian College Baseball Team and celebrating their wins with fellow parents and friends. He was the first to the field before each game to fly the MOCO Greyhound flag in support of the boys. He was the life of any party, the man at the grill and the one making sure you had a beer. Chris fiercely loved his Chicago Cubs and Bears and took every opportunity to see any game he could.
The Power Beach House in Mattituck, NY was Chris and Jeanne’s home away from home over the years. In 2019 Chris became the Project Manager for the renovations to the family home. He guided the family step by step through the process and his dedication will live on as future generations enjoy the home he loved so much.
In 2022, Chris and Jeanne moved to Harbeson, DE where they built their dream home. The new neighborhood introduced them to a slower coastal lifestyle, wonderful new neighbors, and the enjoyment of retirement life.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeanne (Power); his children: Ryan and wife Jill of Windsor, PA, and daughters: Haley, of Chicago, IL and Maggie and fiancé Eddie of Montclair, NJ; his mother Jeanette; his brother Steve and wife Katsura of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnephew. A true family man, he is loved by the extended Luke, Power, Tarletsky and Judge families and will be forever missed.
