Charlotte Zoe Wootten's Obituary
Charlotte Lankford Wootten, 83, of Galestown, MD passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born on August 24,1927, daughter of the late Atley A. and Mabel W. Lankford.
Being the daughter of a waterman and having five brothers, Charlotte learned at an early age to enjoy hunting, fishing, and sports, becoming quite adept at trap shooting. In later years she enjoyed playing cards, and being a Dallas Cowboys fan. She treasured the times that she spent with her family. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 218, in Sharptown.
She married John P. Wootten, Sr., on March 4, 1950. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1987. She was predeceased by her only son, John P. Wootten, Jr., on July 13, 2008, and her companion of many years, John "Jack" Swain, on May 30, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lynn, Allen, Mark, and Scott Lankford, and her sisters, Alice Smith and Rita Dennis.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly S. Owens and husband James, of Galestown; her grandson, Jamie P. Wootten; her granddaughter, Lindsey M. Mullin; her great granddaughter, Christine A.E. Wootten; her great grandson, Nathan P. Milliner; a great grandson due in March; her brother, Paul J. Lankford of Santa Ana, California and many nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by her faithful friends, Rita Ryle of Galestown and Donald Brown of Delmar.
The family would like to thank Donald Brown for his countless hours of support and dedication to her and her family and to the Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Station 3 staff, for the wonderful care that was given to her over the past 3 years.
Funeral services with the Rev. Ruth Tull officiating will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Galestown United Methodist Church, 5541 Galestown-Newhart Mill Road, Galestown, MD. Interment will be in the Galestown Cemetery. Friends may call at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. Casual attire please.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Galestown Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Brenda Cole, 5733 Eldorado-Rhodesdale Road, Rhodesdale, MD 21659.
