Charlotte Burton McDaniel, age 93 of Rehoboth Beach, DE passed away on Dec. 13, 2024, at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood, DE. She was born at home on August 27, 1931, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Amelia Dutton Burton. Sh Read Obituary
So sorry for the family. She was a long time neighbor of my great Aunt Madeline & her husband Harry Menifee as well as my grandmother Loan Bush. I also remember her ceramic shop & when we were children & received baby chicks for Easter my grandmother drove them from Pa to Charlotte across the street. A memory that tickles me still. A sweet lady & I miss most of the folks on the street.

I first stayed at the McDaniels' home as a graduate student on weekends in the summer of 1967 and except for 1968, when I was overseas all summer, I continued to stay there until the summer of 1971. That year I got married and about that time Mac McDaniel built two small cottages behind their home and my wife and I stayed there summer weekends until Memorial Day 1976. By that time, we had two babies and the cottage was getting too small, so we bought a cottage of our own and moved in over the July 4 holiday. As the children were growing, we engaged Brenda McDaniel as a baby sitter and once there was no longer a need for that, we made it a point of visit Charlotte at her home once a summer on a courtesy call. Brenda, Lee and family, I'm so sorry to year of your sweet mother's passing. I had forgotten she worked at Montgomery Ward, but definitely remember her at Sears. I could go in wanting something just not sure exactly what, and Mrs. McDaniel would always point me in the right direction! Comforting to know she lead a long life and is now together again with family and friends who left this Earth before her. Sympathy and condolences to the family.
