Charles Shippen Willin's Obituary
Charles "Chuck" Shippen Willin, age 89, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. Mr. Willin was born on July 13, 1921 in Bridgeville, where he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Willin served as the Bridgeville Postmaster for 35 years and was a past President of the Delaware Postmasters Association. He served in World War II with the US Army as a Regimental Sergeant Major; he was present at the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944.
Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor Shipley Willin; his daughter, Shelley Elder and her husband William Elder; and his son Courtland Willin and his wife Diane Mazzagatti Willin. Chuck is also survived by grandchildren: Stephen Crane; step-grandchildren: Charles Marvil, Caitlin Gatchell, and Lisa Davis; and great-grandchildren: Pierce Crane, Matthew Crane, Charlie Marvil, Phipps Marvil, Emma Marvil, Andrew Gatchell, Caroline Gatchell, Aaron Davis and Brian Davis. Chuck was predeceased by his brother: Thomas Willin; his sister, Rosemary Willin; and his son, David Willin.
Memorial Services will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 202 North Street, Seaford, DE on Saturday, September 11, at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, DE. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Bridgeville, DE.
