Charles Nelson Smitheman's Obituary
Charles Nelson Smitheman, Jr., age 78, of Ocean View, DE, passed away Monday, February 23, 2009, at his residence. He was born September 10, 1930 in Upper Darby, PA, son of the late Charles Nelson Smitheman, Sr. and Eva Esther (Noble) Smitheman.
Previously from Chester Heights, PA, Mr. Smitheman has resided in Ocean View for the past 13 years. He was a Mason in Lenni, PA and served with the US Army in France during the Korean Conflict. He coached basketball, football, and baseball at the Brandywine Youth Club in PA for 15 years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and did some building and contracting during his retirement years. He was a constant at all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events; his family was first and foremost.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith L. (McGuirk) Smitheman; two sons: Michael T. Smitheman and his wife Jeanne of Glen Mills, PA and Edward N. Smitheman and his wife Kimberly of Garnet Valley, PA; two daughters: Linda L. Wood and her husband Robert of Wilmington, DE and Deborah A. Smitheman-Knox of Chadds Ford, PA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Peg Smitheman of Doylestown, PA. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Smitheman.
All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises, Inc., Clarksville, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice of the Delmarva Peninsula, 31038 Country Gardens Blvd., Dagsboro, DE 19939.
