Charles Warren Smith Jr.'s Obituary
Charles (Charlie) Warren Smith III of Lewes, DE passed peacefully in his sleep January 27, 2026. The son of Charles W. Jr. and Jeanette (Weiser) Smith, he was born May 14, 1935, in the Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown, PA. In 1954, he met the love of his life, Gladys G. Seidel, and married her on September 22, 1956. His death marked the end of their 71-year union, something Charles cherished until his passing.
Charles was a hard worker all his life. He worked for Bethlehem Steel, Firestone, and the Reading Eagle, retiring from the latter in 2005. Charles also had many hobbies. He loved working on cars, fixing clocks and watches, collecting and fixing tiffany lamps, and creating special jewelry for the girls in his family. However, his greatest passion was his family. He treasured every opportunity he had to spend with them. They were his pride. The glow on his face when they were all together was unmistakable.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a son (Carl Wellington), a granddaughter, and multiple 4-legged buddies. He is survived by his wife Gladys, two daughters, Gwen Spurr of Catawissa, PA, and Jennifer Tunney of Lofton, NV, two sons, Charles Warren IV and Christopher William, both of Douglasville, PA, a sister, Jeanette Rittenbaugh of Douglasville, PA, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to allow all family and friends who wish to attend, to do so.
