Charles W. "Charlie" Proud, Sr.
The abundantly loved Charles W. "Charlie" Proud, Sr., 82 of Lewes, DE, formerly of Claymont, DE arrived in heaven on October 16, 2008.
Charlie was married to his beloved Jane for 61 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He had a 35-year career with Diamond State Telephone and Bell of Pennsylvania where he retired as a Planning Engineer and helped with the creation of early cellular telephone technology on Metroliner trains.
A faithful servant of the Lord, Charlie was an active member of the Parish of All Saints / St. George's Chapel, Rehoboth Beach and before that, Church of the Ascension, Claymont. Among his many contributions, Charlie also served with the volunteer retired telephone Pioneers, and Meals-On-Wheels.
In addition to the unwavering devotion of his dearly loved wife, Jane, Charlie had four lights of his life, sons Charles "Chip" Proud, Jr. (Laurie) and Todd Proud (Megan) and daughters Christine Bubley (Michael) and Nancy Freebery (Rick) and grandchildren Brent, Brad, Jennifer, Travis, Matt, Scott, Sara, Michele, Elisa, Aaron, Alison, TJ (Erin) and Ricky and four great-grandchildren.
A "Be of Good Cheer" Celebration of Charlie's Life will be held Saturday, October 25, 11:00 AM at St. George's Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road at Route 23, Harbeson, DE 19951; Father Chris Moore will be officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the Parish Hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, DE 19963.
