Charles "Mike" Vernon Martin's Obituary
Charles “Mike” Vernon Martin, age 82, of Lewes, DE, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 10, 2022. He was born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Edward Vernon and Helen Irene (Corder) Martin.
Mike graduated from City College High School, Class of 1957. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mike married Barbara, the love of his life, on June 29, 1968, and they shared 54 wonderful years together. His passion for serving his community led to a lifetime career as a firefighter for the city of Baltimore.
Mike had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid music lover, especially the music of the 50’s and 60’s, and he enjoyed traveling with his wife Barbara, relaxing in front of the TV, and cheering for his beloved Baltimore teams, the Ravens and the Orioles. Mike’s devotion to family, however, took precedence above all, and the time spent with those he held most dear was what he most cherished. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, fellow firefighter, and friend. Loved by many, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sisters: Ruth Irene Otten and Anna Mae William; and his brothers: William Edward Martin and Leroy Clinedinst. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Barbara Ann (Humphreys) Martin, of Lewes, DE; his daughters: Michele Lynn Millner (James) of Milton, DE and Catherine Kim Sill (Paul) of OR; his son, Michael Dwayne Martin (Susan) of St. Louis, MO; his seven grandchildren; his nine grandchildren; and his sister, Barbara Ann Cooke (Alvin) of Baltimore, MD.
