Charles Menige's Obituary
Charles Menige (Chuck), age 102, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 28, 2025. He was born on June 26, 1922, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles W. Menige and Mildred (DeSimini) Menige.
Chuck was a very kind and generous soul. He lived a long, very full life defined by service to his country and community, engaging with his friends and associates, quiet humility, and devotion to his family. He was a proud member of the Midway Lions Club for many years—one may have seen him selling chances for the Lions. He remained active and sharp throughout his life.
He grew up during the Depression era, which shaped his strength of character and unwavering values. He served his country during World War II, joining the U.S. Army as a rifleman and fighting bravely in one of history’s most harrowing battles—the Battle of the Bulge. His courage, strength of character, and quiet heroism remain a source of pride and inspiration for his family and all who knew him.
A dedicated and skilled craftsman, Chuck was the owner of a successful plumbing and heating contracting business for many years. Known for his honesty, craftsmanship, and excellent quality and value, he served many in the Philadelphia area for some 25 years.
Chuck was a loving and caring husband and a devoted family man. When asked to what he attributed his longevity, he would reply, “My wife took such great care of me for our 75 years and one month of marriage!”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian. He is survived by his two daughters, Elsie May (Mame) and Linda; his five grandchildren, Charlotte, David, Heather, Douglas, and Melissa; and three great-grandchildren, Lillianna, Brandon, and Chase—all of whom will carry forward his legacy of love, honor, and grace.
A private funeral service will be held, with military honors to recognize his service.
