Charles Walter Fletcher's Obituary
Charles Walter “Bud” Fletcher, age 82 of Milton, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born October 9, 1927 near Middleburg, VA, son of the late Walter and Mary (Shopland) Fletcher.
Mr. Fletcher graduated from Aldie High School, VA in 1945; soon after he would enlist in the US Navy and serve aboard the USS Mississippi until 1948. Mr. Fletcher worked 34 years for the C & P Telephone Company until retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge #2540, Lewes, DE, a member of the American Legion Post #28, Millsboro, DE, and a dedicated volunteer at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Catherine Conover Fletcher (1987); two brothers: Thomas D. Fletcher of Westminster, MD and Robert L. Fletcher of Lexington, VA. He is survived by four daughters: Joan Fletcher of Lewes, DE, Barbara Rusnak and husband Rus of Gainesville, VA, Cathy Sing and husband Tony of Lewes, DE, and Susan Smith of Lewes, DE; one son, Douglas D. Fletcher and wife Madeira of Alexandria, VA; one brother, Dr. Charles F. Fletcher and wife Hilda of Fairfax, VA; and four sisters-in-law: Nancy Fletcher, Margaret Fletcher, Jane James, and Pat Ray.
Mr. Fletcher is also survived by his cherished grandchildren who brought him much joy: Kate and Ryan Rusnak; Jake, Mary, and Julie Sing; Haley Smith Harmon and husband Jason; and Madison, Dalton, Delaney, Marinah, and Dolan Fletcher.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 2 PM, at the Middleburg Baptist Church, 209 E. Federal Street, Middleburg, VA. Interment will private at a later date.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11 AM, at the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge, 18544 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes, DE. A luncheon will follow at the Elks Lodge.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge #2540, Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 68, Nassau, DE 19969 or to the charity of choice.
