Mr. Conroy was a favorite 4th-grade teacher at Bushey Drive ES in Wheaton, Maryland. I was in his classroom when he broke the terrible news about the assassination of our president, John F. Kennedy. A year later, he left Bushey Drive to become the principal of Lucy V. Barnsley ES. After 6th grade, we moved to Norbeck, and as I walked to Wood Junior High, Mr. Conroy would pass me in his Mustang on his way to Barnsley. It was fun getting to wave to my favorite teacher. Later, he left and went on to be the principal of Strathmore ES. I remember Mr. Conroy having a wonderful voice and including songs in our 4th grade. My first year of teachering in MCPS, was also 4th grade. I thought of the fun we had in Mr. Conroy's class when I planned lessons for my students.
