Charles B. Chunn's Obituary
Charles “Barry” B. Chunn, age 66, of Lewes, DE, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 5, 1944 in Montgomery County, MD, son of the late Charles Frederick and Alice Olene (Timmons) Chunn.
Mr. Chunn spent a career dedicated to perfecting the trade of custom carpentry and teaching it to others. He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam war; is a member of American Legion Post 5 and the American Legion Riders Chapter 5, Post 5, both of Rehoboth Beach, DE. He loved surf fishing, the Redskins, and most of all his passion for riding motorcycles. His coveted bright blue Harley Davidson earned him the title “Papa Smurf.” He was so proud when just a few short months ago he was able to give his son a matching bright blue bike to ride together as “Papa and Jr. Smurf.” Mr. Chunn was known for his unique sense of humor and friendship to many; he was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Chunn is survived by his four sons: Russell W. Chunn and his wife Lawanda of Fredericksburg, VA, Jason J. Gipko and his wife Jenifer of Lewes, DE, Andrew R. Chunn of Lewes, and Charles “Cory” Chunn of Lewes; two daughters: Kimberly D. Sivigny and her husband Doug of Stafford, VA, and Nicole M. Miafodzyeu and her husband Alex “Sasha” of Lewes, DE; nine grandchildren: Brandon, Katie, Tyler, Douglas, Blake, Maddox, Nicholas, Noah, and Owen; sister, Cheryl Brock and her husband Bill of Luray, VA; and his former wife and friend, Susie Chunn.
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, Suite 1002 Wilmington, DE 19801.
