Charles E. Bennett's Obituary
Charles "Charlie" E. Bennett, Sr., age 81, of Lewes, DE, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2009, at Renaissance Health Care in Millsboro, DE, with his family by his side. He was born December 19, 1927 in Pacific Grove, CA, son of the late Maxon and Jessie (Lee) Bennett.
Charlie enjoyed a long career as an Air Traffic Controller at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. He also served with the U.S. Navy during WW II, the Korean conflict and with the Naval Reserves. He was a member of American Legion Post #28, Millsboro. Years ago, Charlie was a participant on the game show "The Price Is Right." He bid on and won a home in Cape Coral, FL, what a win it was! Charlie was an avid reader, loved all animals and faithfully supported animal shelters, and he was a true believer in playing the lottery. Charlie always had a joke to tell and loved to keep his friends entertained. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elenor (Edmondson) Bennett; two daughters: Joan Marie Gilman and her husband Arthur of Culpepper, VA and Barbara Jean Stone and her husband Jimmy of Annapolis, MD; a son, Charles E. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Fountain Valley, CA; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Bennett and his wife Pat of Kingman, AZ.
Friends may call at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Thursday, November 5, 2009 beginning at 11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
