Cecile Caroline Huff's Obituary
Cecile Caroline Huff, known to all as Caroline, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born on July 18,1933 in Nash, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of Sadie Moore Huff and Miller Gatro Huff. Caroline’s early talent and love of art came from her father, who was himself an accomplished artist. Art shaped her life and provided direction for both her academic and professional endeavors for years to come.
Caroline received her Bachelor of Arts from Richmond Professional Institute Center Virginia Commonwealth University and her Masters of Fine Arts from American University. She taught painting and art history at Prince Georges Community College, going on to become the Chair of the Art Department for the last five years of her teaching. Caroline would be remembered by her students for many years to come for her gregarious spirit and positive encouragement, hearing from many of them for years afterward.
Caroline has become a well known local artist in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where she has resided since 2013. Her paintings have been exhibited across the country in galleries and museums. Perhaps a quote from Caroline herself best expresses her work:
“I enjoy painting moments in the changing light of timeless settings — old boats at rest on the Chesapeake Bay, the sunny beach of a Greek island, gondolas bobbing in the shimmering reflections of Venice or Paris in the rain. I often also paint figures captured at a moment of aloneness in quiet contemplation.

Light is the common denominator in my work. It is the stimulus for color, provides the structure for design, creates shapes, defines images and establishes mood."Light is the common denominator in my work. She is known for her rich layered acrylic style of landscapes and people inspired from her many years of traveling the world with her devoted spouse and soulmate who shared her life for 27 years, Brenda Robertson, as well as dear friends. Sadly, Brenda passed away on September 1, 2025.
Caroline’s indomitable spirit drew everyone to her and she will long be remembered for her wit, humor and intellectual curiosity. Her life will be celebrated in a private gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, she has asked that donations be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown, DE.
