Catheryne Louise Brown's Obituary
Catheryne (Cathy) Louise Brown, 74, of Milton, Delaware, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026. Born in Spokane, Washington on September 11, 1951, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Cartwright) Schult, and the stepdaughter of the late Jeanne Schult.
Cathy worked as a realtor, a career she loved and in which she was very successful. A grand adventurer at heart, she delighted in traveling throughout Europe and the Caribbean, experiences that led her to serve as a tour guide in Europe. She loved cruising, reading murder mysteries, learning about American history, and caring for her home—especially the ironing and cleaning. Cathy was a gifted needlepoint and cross-stitch artist, creating many beautiful works of art that are framed and proudly displayed in the homes of family and friends. She also had an extensive and cherished unicorn collection.
What gave Cathy the greatest joy was helping others. For many years, she volunteered with Awana, where she delighted in helping children learn the Bible and nurturing their faith. She was known for her incredible generosity, caring heart, and radiant optimism. An incandescent spirit, she brought light to those around her, and her pets gave her great comfort. Writing sermon notes and nurturing her home life were among her quiet pleasures. All who knew her were blessed beyond measure to have been loved by her.
On June 27, 1973, in Lompoc, California, Cathy married the love of her life, Leonard “Lenny” Brown, who survives her. Also surviving are her son, Kevin Brown; her daughter, Patricia Spencer, who was adopted at birth and with whom Cathy reunited later in life; sisters, Patricia Bart, Elizabeth Roderick, Lisa Schult, and Laura Frickey; and her brother, William Schult, Jr. She is also survived by nieces Carrie Favors, Jennifer Marie Roderick, Anzia Louton, Anna Nason, and Kristin Lynch; nephews Matthew Paradela, Paul Moser, and Eric Moser; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves behind a family of the heart, including children and grandchildren who lovingly called her and Lenny “Grandma” and “Grandpa.”
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Moser.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Crossroad Community Church, 20584 State Forest Rd., Georgetown, DE 19947, with Pastor Irving Clark officiating the service. Family and friends are invited to visit before the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Lunch will follow at 12:00 noon.
