Carolyn Foskey Rogers' Obituary
On March 25th Carolyn Rogers 92, passed away at home surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17,1933 in Delmar, Delaware to the late Minos Farold and Ada Isabell Phillips Foskey.
Carolyn was predeceased by her first husband Harold Roland Rogers, in 1987. They were married for 31 years. In 1999 Carolyn and Ralph Elliott were married and went on to share 19 years together before his passing in 2018. Carolyn was also predeceased by her brother, Kendall James Foskey, who passed in 1993.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Sue Schroeder (John) of Lewes, her son Mark (Paula Gardner) Rogers of Millsboro, grandsons Zachary Schroeder of Washington, DC and Travis (Jessica Stalter) Rogers of Ocean City, Maryland. Carolyn is also survived by her sister-in-law Janice Foskey, step-grandsons Ryan, Adam and Matthew (Jamie) Koch, step-great granddaughter Leah and step-great grandson Cody.
At age 6 Carolyn’s family moved to Georgetown, where she would remain for the next 86 years. During her youth she would spend many hours with her mother’s 10 siblings enjoying family gatherings. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1951, having played both basketball and field hockey. She began working soon after graduation, beginning as a Secretary for Judge Short. Several years later she began what would evolve into an over 40-year relationship with the Georgetown School District. During this tenure she mastered a variety of skills, which had her working as a secretary in the business office, in transportation, in the Elementary school and the High School guidance office. Needless to say, her interactions with hundreds of students over 40 years left her with a lifetime of friends.
Carolyn and Harold Rogers, a Georgetown native, married in 1956 and remained together until his passing in 1987. Most every summer the Rogers family could be found on the Indian River with family and friends, enjoying boating, crabbing, fishing and partying. Twelve years after Harolds passing, Carolyn and Ralph Elliott were married. They enjoyed 19 years together – especially going to Wilson’s Auctions – before his passing in 2018.
At age 62 Carolyn retired from Sussex Central Schools and volunteered at Hospice in its fund-raising drives, a responsibility she thoroughly enjoyed. She also became even more active with Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. She particularly enjoyed working with the Willing Strivers.
Carolyn’s family would like to personally recognize the amazingly compassionate caregivers, Cindy Parkins, Delphine Blake, Sarah Fourner-Scirri and Regina Walker. Additionally, they would like to express their appreciation for her Hospice nurse, Kaitlyn Steelman. For over six months (24/7) these women comforted Carolyn with dignity and respect.
On Thursday, April 3rd, at 10:30 am there will be a visitation for family and friends at Grace United Methodist Church, 7 South King Street, Georgetown, DE; with a service beginning at 11am followed by light refreshments at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Grace United Methodist Church.
