Carol Louise Bitzer's Obituary
Carol Louise Bitzer, age 84, of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on January 8, 1939, in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Emerson Fisher and Geraldine (Ostrander) Cupp.
Carol’s path led her to a career in telecommunications, and she was employed by Verizon for many years until her retirement. Telecommunications was always changing and evolving; Carol enjoyed the challenge and made many friends through the years. She enjoyed being active in her community: she was an honorary member of Raven’s Nest #1 of Harford County, MD, a former member of the Colts Corral No 8 of Baltimore County, MD and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Carol was fascinated by genealogy, and she enjoyed researching her family’s history and discovering her roots. Her love for her family was immense and the time spent with them was dear to her heart. Carol was a loving and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Her smile and her presence will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard “Bud” Reed Bitzer; her sisters, Betty Jackson, Emily Wise; her brother, Kenneth Nelson; her son-in-law, Frank Malczewski, and her grandson, Douglas Barker, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Denny Lee Cupp (Theresa); her daughters, Carol “Becky” Rebecca Malczewski, and Jane Rutkowski (Roscoe); her son John Bitzer (Denise); her grandchildren, Tina Barker, and Jonathon Bitzer (Scarlett); great-grandchildren, Darian McCown (Cheyanna), Anastasia Bailor, Annabell Edwards, and her great-great-grandchildren, Briella McCown, Sawyer McCown, and Gabriella Bitzer.
Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Carol’s memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 (www.cancer.org).
