Carleen Whiteman Zagorski's Obituary
Carleen Whiteman (Nee Culbreth) Zagorski, age 76, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Lionville and Trainer, PA, passed away into Eternity in the early morning hours of July 5, 2022, at Delaware Hospice Center with her daughter Amy Catherine Zagorski and son Matthew Carl Richard Zagorski at her side. Carleen “Leenie” was the second daughter born to Carl Cherfus and Helen (Née Whiteman) Culbreth on the cold snowy day of December 15, 1945.
Carleen grew up in Trainer, Pennsylvania but attended school in Boca Raton, Florida for extended family stays. A high school graduate of Sun Valley High School, class of 1966, Carleen found employment at Boeing before joining Aero Mexico Airlines. Through her high school best friend, Carleen met the love of her life, on a Labor Day weekend blind date, Richard Victor Zagorski, from Northeast Philadelphia.
Carleen and Richard (a Hewlett Packard employee and Drexel University graduate) married and became the wonderful parents of Amy and Matthew Zagorski and relocated to Lionville, PA. After almost six amazing years of marriage, Richard Zagorski passed away at the young age of 42, leaving Carleen widowed with young Amy and Matthew. While still in Lionville, tragedy struck again with a house fire and then again with a separate car fire in the early 1980’s. Carleen persevered with her faith in God and notorious sense of humor and found a career at Synthes USA, Xerox Connect, and Lighthammer before moving to Lewes, DE in 2004.
Leenie was a very familiar face at Beebe Hospital working in the Guest Relations Department at the greeter desk and as a phone operator. As health issues started to persist, Carleen decided to retire from Beebe hospital in 2016 as a ten-year dedicated employee. Carleen loved her Savior Jesus the Christ and the United States of America, cherishing her freedom.
Carleen left behind her beloved children; Amy and Matthew, her sister, Mary Ann King; her brother-in-law, George King; her Chihuahua, Tinker, and a multitude of friends that were made anywhere she went.
