Carl Gary Powell's Obituary
Carl Gary Powell of Millsboro, Delaware passed into heaven's gates May 2, 2026. He was born to Douglas & Lucille Powell on July 2, 1943. He loved sharing his stories of his childhood experiences in Washington D.C. with his playground the monuments. Later he spent his police career in Maryland later retiring to Delaware.
As a Det. Sgt., Carl dedicated his life to serve and protect. He taught at the P. G. co. Police academy, was a Certified Firearms instructor, and was part of the Underwater Rescue Team in P.G. Co., Maryland.
He was active member of many organizations including the Masons, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Police Emerald Society, Elks USA, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge, FOP 9 and FOP 2. He served many roles whether it be as an officer of a lodge or the best cook for their events.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lana Powell; his son Gary Todd Powell & wife Kimberly Powell with Brandon, Hannah & Zachery; daughter Carrie Mannas & Michael Mannas with Samantha, Taylor & Robert; and daughter Debra Vanhook & Bryan Vanhook with Brent, Kaylin, and Sydney. There are six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sisters Sandra Richardson and Cheri Cozin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date placing his ashes by the Thomas Point Lighthouse where his grandfather, Colin Powell was the keeper that he tended over the years. In addition, his ashes will be taken to Ireland to rest in county Cork.
