Captain Daryl R. Mergenthaler's Obituary
Captain Daryl R. Mergenthaler, Delaware State Police Ret., age 74 of Lewes, DE passed away on Monday Sept. 16, 2024 at his late residence. He was born March 27, 1950, in Portsmouth, VA, son of Frederick Mergenthaler of Stanton, DE and the late Helen Mitchell Mergenthaler.
Captain Mergenthaler retired from the Delaware State Police in 2005 after 32 years on the force. During his time with the State Police he had served as a canine trainer, worked on the scuba dive team and SWAT.
In addition to his mother, Capt. Mergenthaler was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl Schoengarth.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deborah L. Mergenthaler; three sons, Daryl R. Mergenthaler, Sr. “RODDY”, (Angela) of Delaware City, DE, Todd Mergenthaler of Old New Castle, DE and Brent A. Mergenthaler (Jackie) of Lewes, DE; brother, Dain M. (Jeanne) of Landenberg, PA; sister, Tammy Quig (Mike), of Wilmington, DE; and three grandchildren, Daryl R. III, Landon, and Blake.
