Calvin Paul Blades' Obituary
Calvin Paul Blades, age 82 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1936 in Chester, PA, son of the late Calvin and Margaret Mary (Harvey) Blades.
Mr. Blades was a proud US Army Veteran, having honorably served from 1956 to 1959. He was a graduate of Caroline County High School, after which he attended Delaware Technical & Community College, earning an Associates Degree in Human Resources in 1975. Mr. Blades earned an additional degree from his Alma Mater in Architectural Design Technology in 1993. He worked for Cheer Transportation for 17 years, all across Sussex County, where he met countless friends, until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Blades was an avid reader and history buff, took great pride in keeping a beautiful home, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Sanibel and Chincoteague Islands. He also had a great affection for nature and his many beloved cats he raised throughout his lifetime. A talented writer and poet, Mr. Blades' love of the written word was evident in the prose he penned over the years. Above all, he cherished time spent with family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Blades is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Barbara Ellen Blades of Lewes, DE; his brother, Don Blades (Peggy) of Bel Air, MD; his niece, Stacey Vargo (Brian) of Bel Air, MD; his nephew, David Blades (Stephanie) of Columbia, MD; his 8 great-nieces and great-nephews; and his adored feline companion, Katie Grace.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Private interment will take place at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
