C. Leon Parker's Obituary
C. Leon Parker, age 89, of Greenwood, DE, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013, at his residence. He was born on August 19, 1924, in Greenwood, DE, son of the late Clinton and Florence (Gray) Parker.
Mr. Parker was a 1942 graduate of Woodbridge High School, Bridgeville, DE. He furthered his education after high school, attending the University of Delaware, Newark, DE, receiving his BA degree. Mr. Parker’s zest for education went even further. He attended the University of Wisconsin, where he received his Masters degree then attending Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, where he received his PHD degree in Chemical Engineering. It was while attending Purdue University that Mr. Parker met the love of his life and future wife on the dance floor.
He and Rose married and relocated back East to New Brunswick, NJ, where they started their family. In New Jersey Mr. Parker would work for Union Carbide, Inc., as a Plastic and Rubber Development Researcher for 16 years. Eventually the family would move to Akron, OH, where Mr. Parker would work a number of years with Goodyear Tire. He would then begin a career in Michigan with Whirlpool followed by a position as a consultant with the Miter Corporation in Washington D.C. It was here Mr. Parker would decide on retirement.
Mr. Parker loved dancing, especially with Rose. They enjoyed square dancing but most especially the elegance of ballroom dancing together. He was a life-time gun enthusiast, holding memberships in the NRA, International Benchrest Shooters and locally with the Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club.
Mr. Parker also enjoyed reading and spending a little time watching television. He was an avid gardener, especially enjoying his vegetable beds and fruit trees. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Mr. Parker is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Rosalin “Rose” Parker; his two daughters: Nancy Lee Parker and her husband Gary Cowardin of Richmond, VA and Linda Parker of Crownsville, MD; his son, Clinton William Parker II and his wife Deborah of Charlotte, NC; and his four granddaughters: Chelsea Rose Parker-Imamura and husband Yuki Imamura; Vanessa Rose Parker; Alexis Rose Parker and Marissa Rose Parker.
