In Loving Memory
Bruce W. Uliss
11/08/1940 - 1/6/2006
Bruce W. Uliss, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Washington, DC, passed away on January 6, 2006 at the age of 65 after a gallant struggle with lung cancer. He is survived by his life partner, Steve Malcom, and their children (Matthew and Stephanie, Jeffrey and Marianne) grandchildren (Justin, Joshua and Jonah) and a host of long-time, loving friends.
The son of the late Ruth and Arthur Uliss, Bruce was born in the Bronx, NY on November 8, 1940.
He was a graduate of New York University, a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, and enjoyed a long and successful executive career in retail, merchandising home furnishings for a number of upscale retailers including Design Research, Bonnier's, and Garfinckel's. Many items that Bruce introduced into this country have been accepted for permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. After Garfinckel's was sold in 1986, Bruce began a new career in real estate, bringing his expertise in home furnishings and real estate together in both the Washington Metropolitan area, and later Delaware, where he and his partner chose to make their home.
In his first year as a Realtor, he was named Rookie of the Year by the Washington D.C. Association of Realtors, and was consistently one of the top agents in the offices he served at Long and Foster Real Estate, Inc. He eventually received recognition as a Certified Buyers Agent and Graduate of the Realtor Institute. He also obtained his Associate Broker's Real Estate license.
Urbane and well traveled, he was an outstanding cook and gracious host, a voluminous reader, a board member of the Henlopen Theater Project, and a devoted owner of a French bull dog named Stoney.
A memorial service and celebration of Bruce's life will be held on Sunday January 15, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at The Inn At Canal Square, 122 Market St. Lewes, DE, followed by a reception.
