Bruce Edward Powell's Obituary
On February 7th, 2025 Bruce Edward Powell, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother passed away peacefully and went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Washington, D.C. on December 26, 1942, he was the oldest of two sons born to Richard and May Powell.
After moving to Maryland, he graduated from Northwood High School. He then attended Montgomery College where he earned his Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
In August of 1963, Bruce married the love of his life, Rachel Ann Louden. Life became busy very quickly with the addition of their three children within the next three years.
Bruce started working in the Elevator Construction Industry to support his family. With his superb work ethic and attention to detail, he quickly earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers. Bruce used his skills to rise to a managerial role and served in the Washington Metropolitan area for years. He then moved to Rehoboth Beach, DE, and continued working in the industry on the Eastern Shore before retiring in 1999. After 37 years in the elevator trade, Bruce received a gold certificate of honor from the International Union of Elevator Constructors.
Bruce and Rachel lived out the rest of their lives in their favorite place, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This is where Bruce instilled the love of enjoying a beach day with his immediate and extended family. Of course, he would never let his family forget that a great beach day was never complete without grabbing a bite to eat at his favorite restaurant, Nicola Pizza. Bruce’s passions included being involved in his church and serving as a key member of his Barbershop men’s singing group. He also enjoyed sharing his life stories, love of music and tales of rebuilding cars, boats, electronics and anything he thought was worth rebuilding with his friends and family.
Bruce is preceded in death by his father, Richard Powell, mother May Powell, and loving wife of 59 years, Rachel.
Bruce is survived by his three children, Shawn (Laurel), Tina, and Kevin (Christy), his six grandchildren, Megan (Justin), Shannon, Ryan, Brandon, Thomas and Natalie, and his great-granddaughter, Daisy. Additionally, Bruce is survived by his younger brother, Ron (Terri), many other relatives and close friends. He will be missed by many relatives and friends.
