Brian S. Wintersteen's Obituary
Brian Simpson Wintersteen was born July 17, 1948, in Baltimore, MD to Anne and Roland Wintersteen of Port Carbon, PA and passed away on September 21, 2024, in Dover, DE. He was their youngest son and was preceded in death by his parents and sibling Roland Bruce Wintersteen. He was the loving husband of Joyce Kay Wintersteen for 47 years. He is survived by his children, Diana Kirby, Bryan Wintersteen (wife Beth), Jeffrey Kirby and Laurie White and nine grandchildren, Stewart Snapp IV, Bryan Wintersteen (wife Carlie), Blake Wintersteen, Brock Wintersteen, Betsy Wintersteen, Mackenzie White, Christopher White, Andrew White and Cooper White. He is also survived by his two nieces Melissa Harding (friend Scott) & Diana Holland (husband Michael), and many great nieces and nephews.
Brian and his wife Joyce raised their loving family in Catonsville, Maryland. The family were members of Bishop Cummins Memorial RE church for 28 years where Brian served in the Men’s Ministry and sang in the choir. He was a faithful Christian who organized men’s retreats like Promise Keepers. He even taught a sermon or two! Brian was well-known for his love of music and singing - a trait he learned from his mother Annie. People who knew Brian would say, “he is a walking encyclopedia” full of knowledge and trivia! Brian often shared stories about his life experiences as a way to help people.
After living in Catonsville, MD, Brian and his wife Joyce later retired to Country Place in Houston Texas where he was an avid golfer playing 364 days a year – only taking off Christmas day. Over his lifetime, Brian and his wife Joyce enjoyed trips and activities like dancing, bull roasts, barbeques and parties. Nine years ago, they relocated to Heritage Shores, Bridgeville, Delaware where you could often find Brian shooting pool or playing cards with his neighbors & friends or watching the horse races with Joyce & Diana. He was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Colts and Ravens.
Brian spent his early career excelling at managing grocery stores. In 1990 Brian joined his wife Joyce to work in the cemetery industry. Brian quickly ascended into management where he oversaw two cemeteries and a team of counselors. He was well-rewarded for his accomplishments! In 2003 he suffered a major stroke leading doctors to give him a 5% chance of survival. With the help of his wife Joyce, Brian worked hard every day for a year to overcome his physical challenges. Over the next 21 years his devoted and loving wife sacrificially cared for him. To honor his Christian faith, Brian often shared our savoir Christ with others. During covid, Brian and Joyce started a telephone bible study with our Texas family that lasted four years only pausing when Brian recently became ill.
Brian will always be remembered as an honorable, faithful and loving believer. We grieve his loss and have peace in knowing he was assured of his salvation purchased by his loving Savior Jesus Christ.
