Bonnie W. Miller's Obituary
Bonnie W. Miller, 75, of Lewes entered into the embrace of her loving Savior on Sunday, November 6th.
Bonnie taught art at the Shields Elementary School in Lewes from 1990 until her retirement in 2009. Her creativity, imagination, patience, and love of beauty inspired hundreds of young students.
Bonnie served of the Board of Directors of Scripture Union/USA which allowed her to integrate her love of children and of the Bible in order to develop effective children's Christian Ministry programs nationwide.
Her pastimes included many happy hours working on Sudoku puzzles, and she was known for creating thousands of charming Origami greeting cards, a hobby she began following her trip to Japan in 2004 on a Fulbright Scholarship.
In addition, during her last months she became a fan of the Baltimore Orioles having never previously shown the slightest interest in sports in general or baseball in particular.
Most of all, Bonnie was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her life mirrored His compassion and love. She was a member of the St. Matthews By-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island, Delaware where she worshipped, taught children's Sunday School, sang in the choir, rang handbells, and served with her husband, Reverend Bruce C. Miller, for twenty years.
Besides her husband of fifty-two years, Bonnie leaves behind a son, Reverend Burt Miller (Katie), a daughter, Tammy L. Russum, two grandsons, Benjamin A. and Luke E. Miller, one granddaughter, Courtney M. Russum, and two siblings, Clay A. Monroe Jr. (Susan), and Cora Mae Bush.
Bonnie's family and friends will gather to remember her life and praise her Lord on Wednesday, November 16th at 11:00 am at the St. Matthews By-the-Sea United Methodist Church, 1000 Coastal Highway, Fenwick Island, Delaware. Well-wishers can greet the family beginning at 10:00am. Her interment will take place later that day at 3:00pm at the Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes. Bonnie's many admirers are invited to attend either or both gatherings.
Donations in memory of Bonnie may be made either to the St. Matthews By-the-Sea United Methodist Church, 1000 Coastal Highway, Fenwick Island, Delaware, 19944, or to the Tunnell Cancer Center in care of the Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, Delaware, 19958.
