Mom,
You were (having a tough time with that word) an incredible woman. You were adored by your husband, Ed, as well as your children and six grandchildren. Your hard work, caring nature, humor and love of life are some of the many traits that characterized you.
You grew up in the Washington, DC area, developing a strong work ethic by delivering the Washington Star newspaper starting when you were just 14 years old.
In the year after you graduated high school, in September, you were directed by your father to go to the drug store to get a birthday card for Aunt Louise. Struggling to find the right card, you looked up and saw Ed, who was working at the store at the time. It was love at first sight and that love turned into a marriage of 63 years.
As an adult, you held numerous jobs and raised three boys at the same time. You faithfully sang in the church choir at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, MD.
In your later years, along with your husband, Ed, you moved to Ocean View, DE to enjoy the beach life in retirement. You became a member of Community Lutheran Church, where you again shared your singing talents with the choir.
You were (again having tough time with that word) an extremely hard worker, often eschewing calling for help and instead doing the job yourself, whether it involved painting, building, gardening or cleaning. You took tremendous pride in this work you did and never settled for less than perfection.
You were also the definition of “young at heart”. You loved to yell at the officials through the TV screen when they made a bad call against the Redskins. One of your favorite things to do was play with your six grandchildren. You especially enjoyed singing Kumbaya with them while you played the organ.
You will be missed dearly by all who knew you. You crushed Alzheimer’s Disease recently by passing on to everlasting life with God in Heaven, where you now have joined Dad, who passed three weeks earlier to the day.
Rest in peace, Mom. God is thankful for having another great alto join his everlasting choir.
