Betty Ellen Shubert's Obituary
Betty Ellen Shubert, age 91, left us to be with the Lord June 9, 2016 from her home at Brandywine Assisted Living, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Betty was born in Chanute, Kansas on July 15, 1924.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helma Huffman, her siblings, and her beloved husband, Doyle Shubert to whom she was married for 54 years.
Fondly known as "Betty Boop" by her extended family and friends, Betty remained active throughout her life because of her faith, her love of Jesus and her love of giving to others. Wherever she was, Betty had always been involved with and loved her church. For the last 20 years, Betty contributed her gifts and talents to Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach.
"Boop" was a gifted "crafter" (ceramics, woodcrafts, cooking and embroidery) and through her gifts, she gave to hundreds of people throughout her life. Betty was an avid volunteer and devoted Christian. Anyone who met "Boop" loved her!
Many will remember "Boop" as the longest term resident at Brandywine Assisted Living as she drove her electric wheelchair (the "Cadillac") to Super G, KMART and her favorite luncheon spot, Ruby Tuesdays.
Betty is survived by her devoted caregiver Jill Gregory, her many friends through Epworth UMC and Brandywine Assisted living, and her son Duane Shubert.
The celebrations of Betty's life were private and she was laid to rest beside her dear husband, Doyle in Castle View Memorial Gardens in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
Memorial gifts may be made in Betty's memory to Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 and directed to the building fund or Epworth's youth programs.
