Betty Jane Picking's Obituary
Betty Jane Picking, age 96 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Brandywine Senior Living. She was born on January 24, 1925 in Hamilton Township, PA daughter of the late Vernon H. and Mabel G. (Pilgrim) Stockslager.
Betty had worked most of her life for the Social Security Administration. After retirement, she traveled to every state in the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska. Throughout her life, Betty volunteered for many organizations including hospice, Office of the Aging, and the Friendly Visitor with Lutheran Social Services. More than anything, Betty loved to be with her family.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Garnet Eckenrode; her second husband, Robert Picking; her two sisters: Janet Kennedy and Gladys Holtzapple; and her son-in-law, Robert Obergefell. She is survived by her son, Robert C. (Christine) Picking of Williamsport, PA; her daughter, Brenda J. Obergefell of Millsboro, DE; her three grandchildren: Andrea Picking, Candace DiBuo, and Tony DiBuo; and her four great-grandchildren: Brady Picking, Mariah DiBuo, Zooey DiBuo, and Antonio DiBuo.
Betty’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Brandywine Senior Living for the past five and a half years.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Funeral Service will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958. Interment will be private at Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Seasons Hospice, 30265 Commerce Dr., Suite 205, Millsboro, DE 19966.
