Bernard J. McMartin's Obituary
Bernard "Bernie" J. McMartin age 84, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 05, 2012 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE. He was born in DuBois, PA on Tuesday, September 13, 1927, son of the late John D. and Gertrude (Stanley) McMartin.
Mr. McMartin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at Penn State in 1950 and worked for DuPont Company of Wilmington for over 35 years. He had assignments in Seaford, North Carolina, New Jersey, California and twice in Ohio.
He served 1 year in the US Navy from 1945 to 1946 and two years in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of American Legion Post #5 and VFW Post #7447, both of Rehoboth Beach, loved sports, was an avid golfer and loved to sing, especially on St. Patrick's day in his green suit.
Mr. McMartin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie P. (Ruggiero) McMartin, three daughters, Theresa Zakutny of Newark, DE, Lori McMartin of Lewes and Margaret Licausi of Rehoboth Beach, DE, seven grandchildren, Sara, Matthew and Joseph Zakutny, Stephanie and Michael Frey, Bernie and Brittany Downes and one great grandson, Aiden Topolski.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel,16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958 or the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, De 19713.
