Benjamin Elliott Whitelock's Obituary
Benjamin Elliott Whitelock, age 72, of Seaford, DE, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. He was born in Ewell, MD, on June 2, 1945, son of the late Captain Benjamin E. and Maude (Somers) Whitelock.
Mr. Whitelock dedicated a lifelong career to his Country serving in the Maryland National Guard for several years and later for the United States Army Reserve. He would retire from the Army Reserves as a Sergeant 1st Class after more than 25 years. During this time, Mr. Whitelock also worked protecting his community as a Delaware State Trooper from 1969-1979. He also worked as a tug boat captain with Dann Marine in Chesapeake City, MD for many years.
Mr. Whitelock was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Crisfield, MD, the Crisfield-Smith Island Cultural Alliance, the International Order of Odd Fellows in Laurel, the American Legion Post 6 of Seaford and St. Johns United Methodist Church in Seaford. In his spare time, Mr. Whitelock enjoyed vacationing on Smith Island, being on the water, cutting grass and hunting. His favorite time all, was the time spent with his family and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Whitelock is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Olive Virginia (Spriggs) Whitelock; his two sons: Benjamin Eric Whitelock and his wife Mary Lou of Seaford, DE, and Jonathan Howard Whitelock and his wife Lisa of Frederica, DE; his daughter, Candace Leigh Whitelock of Seaford, DE; his five grandchildren: Benjamin E Whitelock, Jr., Mason Deane Whitelock, Christian Lloyd Whitelock, Katharine Elizabeth Whitelock and Jensen Elias Whitelock; his beloved grand dog, Apollo Whitelock the golden retriever; his sister, Eloise Whitelock Tyler of Salisbury, MD; and nephews and a niece.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Methodist Church, 300 North Pine Street, Seaford, DE where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
