Barbara Rice Lombel, age 83 of Ocean View, DE, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville, MD. She was born in Pottsville, PA, on January 19, 1936, daughter of the late John and Isabel (Lawson) Rice.
Mrs. Lombel was an avid Major League Baseball fan, always rooting for her favorite teams, the Orioles, Nationals, and Phillies. She also enjoyed bowling, watching Maryland basketball, game shows, and playing cards and slots at the casinos. A devout Catholic, Mrs. Lombel was a member of Holy Redeemer Church in College Park, MD, St. Hughes Church in Greenbelt, MD and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Frankford, DE. Above all, Mrs. Lombel was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lombel was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Rice; and her sisters: Rita Troutman, Isabel Adelizzi, Jean Kovich, and Elizabeth Orlowsky. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Robert Lombel of Ocean View, DE; her sons: Stephen Lombel (Debbie) of Simpsonville, SC and Brian Lombel (Alison) of Millersville, MD; her daughters: Joanne Olsufka (Ed) of Sykesville, MD and Lynn Baker (John) of Sykesville, MD; her grandchildren: Colleen DeClue (Steve) of Elkridge, MD, Josh Olsufka of Sykesville, MD, Nick Lombel, Kaleigh Lombel and Tommy Steelman, all of Millersville, MD, Troy Baker and Danielle Baker, both of Sykesville, MD, and John Lombel, Drew Lombel, and Kate Lombel, all of Simpsonville, SC; her great-granchildren: Adriana DeClue and Chase DeClue, both of Elkridge, MD; and her sister, Joan Wellner (Donald) of Bethlehem, PA.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View, DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the services at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Lombel's memory to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
