Barbara B. Foti's Obituary
Barbara Boland Foti, 69, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007 at her home.
She was born on August 17, 1937 to the late Eleanor Stout Boland and William Boland. Barbara was raised in Gaithersburg, MD and graduated from the Academy of Holy Names in Silver Spring, MD and St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, MD. She taught at Goldey Beacom College in Delaware, Montgomery County Public Schools Adult Education Department in MD, and in Federal and County Governments in the Washington, DC area. Barbara taught business subjects at Washington Business School in Rockville, MD and Vienna, VA, and was Dean of Students at Washington Business School for 11 years. She was also Dean of Secretarial Studies for the Katharine Gibbs School in Rockville for 5 years, where she implemented a stude nt success program used in all the Gibbs Schools. Combining her love for teaching with administration, Barbara felt strongly about helping her students develop their potential to become the best they could be. She received Virginia Association of Private Career Schools Award for Teacher of the Year in 1991 and VAPCS Distinguished Service Award in 1994.
After retiring to Lewes in 2000, Barbara volunteered at Beebe Medical Center, worked as bulletin editor for St. Jude The Apostle Church, and served as Secretary of the Liturgy Committee, a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and a hospital minister to the sick. She also facilitated a program for Separated & Divorced Catholics.
Barbara is survived by three daughters: Linda Daugherty, her husband John and their 4 children, Andrew, Lauren, Chris, & Katie of Virginia Beach, VA; Lisa Creamer, her husband Sean and their 3 children, Kevin, Ryan, & Colleen of Olney, MD; and Laurie Ferguson, her husband Andy and their son Garrett of Keyser, WV. She is also survived by her fiance, David Vaughn, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, her sister, Susan Southwell of Germantown, MD, a niece, two nephews and dear family and friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 7-9 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE and again on Friday, 10-11 AM at the church prior to Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 17, 11 AM at St. Jude The Apostle Church, Delaware Route 1 north of Five Points, Lewes, DE. A private burial will take place in Beallsville, MD.
