Awald "Jerry" Bembe's Obituary
Awald “Jerry” Jarrett Bembe age 68, of Bear, DE, formerly of Rockland County, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 24, 1943, in Annapolis, MD, son of the late Awald Frank John and Elizabeth Gertrude (Segelken) Bembe.
Mr. Bembe graduated from Annapolis High School and from the University of Maryland in 1967 with a degree in Engineering. He honorably served with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and earned the rank of Captain. In 1999, Mr. Bembe retired as a Financial Planner for Verizon Telecommunications where he first worked in Manhattan, NY and in his later years in Westchester, NY. For over 30 years he was an active parishioner of the United Church of Spring Valley, Spring Valley, NY. In January of 2010, Mr. Bembe and his wife moved to Bear, DE. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to many.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Vivian M. (Vega) Bembe; three daughters: Allison Bembe of Hartland, VT, Vanessa Rodulfo and husband Nicholas of Greensboro, NC, and Felicia Bembe of Jersey City, NJ; and his brother, Ronald Bembe of Baltimore, MD.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 29, 2011, 1:00 PM at the United Church of Spring Valley, 11 E. Church St., Spring Valley, NY, 10977. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Mr. Bembe’s name to the Rockland Interfaith Breakfast Program at the United Church of Spring Valley, P.O. Box 398., Spring Valley, NY, 10977 or to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
