Audrey M. McMeekin's Obituary
Audrey M. McMeekin, age 83, passed away on February 7, 2022. She was born on July 24, 1938 in Neptune, NJ, daughter of the late Adam and Adela (Penska) Schwerthoffer.
Audrey lived her life to the fullest and radiated love in everything that she did. Her infectious smile and laughter brightened every room. She was a faithful member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was a volunteer at numerous events. Audrey was also co-founder of the Returning Adult Student Association at the University of DE Newark, the Kappa Delta PI, and retired from the Indian River School District. She enjoyed outings to see the Possum Point Players and traveling with family. Audrey enjoyed her many friendships and cherished all of them. Audrey always spoke of her wonderful Beach Plum Place family that she had and loved each one dearly. She volunteered at the New Life Thrift Shop and enjoyed Osher Lifelong Learning classes. Audrey was an Ombudsman for her church and adored her church family. She also was a Docent for the RAL Cottage Tour. Audrey loved all of her pets and her grand pets as well. She will be deeply missed by those that knew her. Audrey loved her family, her friends, and her life.
In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John M. McMeekin, and her brother, Anton (Kathy) Schwerthoffer. She is survived by her sons: Roger (Beth) McMeekin of Newark, DE, and Scott (Lisa) McMeekin of St. Petersburg, FL; her grandchildren: John, Thomas, Scott, and Amanda McMeekin; her sister, Adela (Bob) Rescigno; and many nieces and nephews; and her “self-proclaimed favorite son”, Paul Lesniak.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Rd, Rehoboth Beach, DE where friends may visit beginning at 9:00 AM. There will be a short gathering and then departure at 12:15 PM for interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
