Armand F. Girard's Obituary
Armand F. Girard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on March 31, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, Armand grew up in Roland Park. He attended Gilman School, graduating in 1955, and went on to earn both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University. After college, he served in the Maryland National Guard, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant, and the US Army. Throughout his life, he also took part in local civic and political activities in the Maryland area.
Armand dedicated his professional life to education. Over the course of his teaching career, he taught at Boys’ Latin School of Maryland, Loyola Blakefield, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Patterson High School, and several other schools throughout the Baltimore area. He was known for his guidance in the classroom and his genuine commitment to his students.
Summers held a special place in Armand’s heart. Throughout his life, he spent cherished months in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware—a place that became a second home. There, he built lifelong friendships and created countless memories on Deauville Beach. On any given beach day, you could find him making sandcastles, collecting mussels, playing volleyball, riding his bike, or—most famously—organizing his unique “ballrolls” and crafting handmade beach signs.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy “Dottie” (Ellinger) Girard, whom he married in April 1970. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Smith (Alex), and his two granddaughters, Regan and Claire.
He will be remembered for the strong relationships he built and the support he offered to the people in his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Family and friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
