Anton W. Melda's Obituary
Anton “Tony” W. Melda, age 72, of Milton, DE, formerly of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 4, 2011 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE. He was born on Saturday, September 10, 1938, in New York City, NY, son of the late Anton W. and Stephanie F. (Gawareski) Melda.
Tony graduated from Smyrna High School, Smyrna, DE in 1956 and entered the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he spent 35 years working for Stroemann’s Bakery (formerly Tasty Bakery), Bronx, NY, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a man of few words, but great deeds. He possessed the uncanny ability to make friends anywhere. All will remember Tony as a kind man with a great heart and a gentle soul. He especially loved watching his grandchildren grow; they were his pride and joy. Tony was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie Melda. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Alda P. (Saitta) Melda, 2 stepsons: Albert H. Wunsch III and his wife Marie of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, and David W. Wunsch and his wife Gail of Ringwood, NJ; stepdaughter, Janet P. Freay of Cresskill, NJ; five grandchildren: Max Freay, Albert Wunsch IV, Marisa Freay, Alanna Wunsch, and Jocelyn Wunsch; brother, Frani Melda and his wife Susan of Dover, DE; and sister, Simone Frissard and her husband Kenneth of Marietta, GA.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE, 19958, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Friends may also visit on Monday, July 11, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home where a Rosary will be recited beginning at 7:00 PM. Interment with military honors will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to; Memorial donations may be made to: Don Bosco Preparatory High School, Chapel Restoration Fund, 492 N. Franklin Turnpike, Ramsey, NJ 07446 or to American Heart Association, 200 Continental Drive, Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713
For his friends in New Jersey, A Memorial Mass in his honor will be held in September.
